Marly Necklace

The Marly Necklace… Perfect to brighten anyone’s day! Each sun is completely hand made ensuring quality and a unique touch in every single one. Wear it as an everyday day piece or at a night out with the girls, either way, it goes with everything.

This Necklace is named after my own rescue dog Marly. I found him when he was only 8 months old (I was 14 at the time) in a very dirty house that constantly had people coming and going at all times.

When I first met him, he was absolutely terrified of me. So much so that he wouldn’t come near me! His owner at the time didn’t care about how scared he was and kept pushing him towards me only making the situation worse. I knew he would never show his real personality under those conditions so I asked to have a little time alone with him outside. When we went outside, I sat down in the driveway and held the end of what they thought was a good leash when in reality it was more like a string rather than a proper leash. I had to loop it around his neck because they didn’t even have a collar for him.

After sitting for a couple minutes he started to calm down and I could see that he needed more help than I originally thought. I immediately took him back inside where his owner and my parents were talking. The all asked what I was thinking and I said “I’ll take him!”. My parents were shocked. They thought I was a little crazy for taking him but all I can think was that if I couldn’t care for him the way he deserves then I’ll find someone who can, but I’m definitely not leaving him here. Little did I know it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Before we took him home, we stopped at the store and got him his first collar, name tag, food and water bowls, a real leash, and let him pick out some toys.

When we got him home, we started to notice signs of abuse. He would squint and flinch every time we raised our hands for any reason. They told us he was potty trained but he would pee out of fear all the time. He was especially scared of my dad and brothers.

After a week he puked up a worm. I know… that’s really gross but its an important part of his story. We immediately took him to the vet and he told us that if he hadn’t puked up that worm or if we didn’t see it he would have died within weeks. His old home was so dirty that they would have never noticed it. And he was so angry towards anyone who came near him that I was the only person who ever even considered taking him. If I hadn’t found him when I did, he would have died from improper care and abuse. Thankfully we caught it, put him on meds and he gained 5 whole pounds after all the worms were gone. Finally a healthy weight!

Day by day Marly began to trust me and my family and now 5 years later… he’s happy, healthy, and living his best life! He loves going on adventures wether it’s camping for two weeks or just running to the store. He loves finding pine cones in our yard and running through the forest! He still has trust issues with new people, but we work with him every day to help lessen that fear more and more. He’s my best friend and the inspiration of my entire jewelry collection.
